On Friday 20th May I had severe toothache. I phoned my surgery, Stapleford NG9 8DB, and was not able to get an appointment. Over the weekend I managed to get treatment from another dentist at Sherwood in Nottingham. He treated me for an abcess with antibiotics. On Monday 23rd May I filled in one of your complaint forms. I have, seven days later, not received an acknowledgement of this complaint. I did not keep a copy of the complaint but it went something like this: On May 20th I contacted the surgery. I was asked if I was registered at the practice, I said I was. I was asked which dentist I usually saw. I was then told there were no appointments that day. I asked about May 21st and was told you didnt work Saturdays. I asked about next week and was told nothing was available. Why I needed to go through this is a mystery to me as it was obvious I wasnt going to be offered anything. I was then given the number of NEMS (Nottingham Emergency Medical Services) as the only alternative. This despite your website listing several phone numbers under the heading emergency including the Stapleford surgery ! Anyway, I tried to contact NEMS. There are several problems with this. Firstly they are not open Fridays, secondly they only serve Nottinghamshire and my address is Derbyshire and thirdly they only see new patients with a dentist referral. So I was left in pain,with no clear idea what to do next, over the weekend. I eventually sorted this out but with no thanks to mydentist Your complaint form claims a three working day response time. It is now seven days since I filled in the form. What is the point of being loyal customer of mydentist, when in an emergency no help is offered? The only reasons I have not sort another dentist are that I have previously been quite happy with the service offered and was happy with both the dentist and hygienist I have seen. Also I have already paid deposits on future treatment which presumably I would not get back.
