Later I was invited to join the Clubs Council and went on to become Club President 2010/2011 and I remain actively involved today.
Why?
Feedback from members is frequently that they enjoy the Club as it isnt an in your face salesy network and that people are relaxed. I totally agree with this and its something I too enjoy.
Of course business comes into it otherwise nobody would come to the lunches and other events but who wants people selling to you all the time! The atmosphere is very professional but at the same time relaxed. Id very much use the term business club rather than a networking event or group because its so much more than just networking. Its a collaboration, a get together of like-minded business people to talk about issues, talk about the sectors, the economy and to some degree meet regularly with what become old friends.
Ive done business with people within the Club, seen others do the same and even know of businesses that have been started after meeting at the Club.
I keep coming back because its become a real community, something to be a member of and something I am proud to be a part of. With a history dating back to 1924 and an underlying ethos of creating better commerce across the city and beyond, as well as having a social side, if youve not been before I highly recommend it to you.
Some of it is informative with excellent business speakers, it provides an opportunity to know whats going on in the city and the business focus also helps move my business forward. You need to get to know people to build relationships because its relationships that are the true currency of business and not money and thats what happens at NCBC.
A few words to sum it up: Professional, relaxed, friendly, established and business focused.

The speakers are often very informative and on more than one occasion I have learnt something important to me and/or my clients by attending the club . Important information that I may not have picked up on elsewhere. I cannot recommend the club enough, once a month its the only place to be on a Friday lunch time and often business is done at the Castle Pub afterwards.
