Roger Hickman's Restaurant

Myself and some friends dined at Roger Hickman resturant on Sat evening. We had the 7 course taster menu. When we asked about the wine flight to accompany our meal we were told by the waitress that they did not have enough glasses for us to do that. We found this crazy as a resturant such as this did not have enough glasses for its customers, the only explanation being they wanted us to buy bottles of wine rather than the wine flight. Service was very slow as 2 hours in we had only had our 2nd dish. There did not seem to be enough staff to deal with the resturant. Cheapest bottle of wine was 40 plus 12.5% service charge which was added to our bill supposedly discretionary which it is not if added to your bill. Tipping should be discretionary and never added to your bill as this should reflect how you feel about the service you have received. Our bill was over 1300 with 150 of that being service charge which I found appalling personally as did the rest of the group but not wanting to make an issue we paid it, but it has left a bad taste after what was a very nice meal. Would we all return very unlikely I certainly would not given the issues above

Spontaneous lunch. Fantastic. Beautifully cooked food, relaxed and comfortable dining room. Great service. Lovely!
