(Translated by Google) St Michael's Church in (New) Malton is often affectionately referred to as 'The Church in the Market Place'. It is therefore in the heart of this historic market town in North Yorkshire. The church was built around 1150 in Norman style, and still has many features of this style. The tower, however, was added to the church in the 15th century. The baptismal font, of unusual design, is probably as old as the church. Small traces of color show that it was painted in the Middle Ages. The pulpit is from the Georgian period around 1800. The round windows in the aisles and clerestory and the large chancel arch are 19th century. Old paintings in the church show that a lot has changed in the last centuries, up to and including 2010! The stained glass windows are beautiful, colorful and mostly 19th century, both visual and non-figurative. It's not for nothing that I always feel like I'm walking these old churches through a history book. This church is very English and very inviting for a visit. (Original) De St Michael's Church in (New) Malton wordt vaak liefkozend 'The Church in the Market Place' genoemd.
