BMC recently carried out a fairly small job for us, re-plastering our front bedroom and hallway. The initial appointment was postponed twice and although we were quoted a two-man / two full-days job - it ended up being 1-man and 4/5 days (not full days either). There were small areas totally missed, so the plasterer had to return to complete the work. The owner tried to make-out the areas were intentionally missed as the plasterer didn't think they needed to be done. This came across a bit like covering ones arse - the point being, we requested and were also paying for a full re-plaster - so not really up to the plasterer to decide what should be done and or not. At least ask us, have a conversation and allow us to inspect the areas before you make that call and certainly before you run out the door! Turns out the plasterer actually just missed those bits.... Anyway, overall my first thoughts were that he plasterer had done an ok job considering he was on his own and based on my limited knowledge/experience! However my handyman who is fitting our skirting and coving for us at the moment disagrees. The wall has been left uneven in some areas, making it difficult to neatly apply the skirting, Also, because the plasterer has not plastered down to the floor our handyman is having to use filler so the skirting doesn't have massive gaps. We purposefully removed the skirting in the bedroom, as we knew we'd be replacing it - so I am at a loss as to why the full wall has not been done - he at least could have plastered down enough so the space where the skirting would go is level all the way around! Additionally, the plasterer didn't bother to mask mouldings etc. in our hallway, so we now have splodges of dried plaster over door frames, skirting and even on our light-fitting - not to mention the carpet! There are scuffs and scratches in some places too - which from a distance you can't see, but it's definitely not the perfect paint finish we were promised. I just feel like it was too small a job for them and they couldn't really be bothered. Simple solution - don't accept the business! But it's their loss as we are remodelling the whole downstairs of our home in the next few months, so will obviously need a reliable plasterer - but due to the poor standard and attitude of BMC for this job, it's safe to say they will not be on our shortlist and we would definitely not recommend them to friends / family or even strangers.
