A hotel of 2 halves. The house itself is beautifully decorated and the rooms are lovely. Bed was comfortable. Tea and coffee great. Breakfast was tasty. Shower was good and towels fluffy. Funky fans for air. Great gardens - mostly - with swings and climbing frame. Had a lounge were you could sit and relax. However: We could hear every word from next door. Esp in the bathroom No extra security on bedroom doors. Just a lock. No chains for extra security. And since there was no-one on reception and the front door was open all night, it's a bit concerning. Light through curtains and door. Lots of light pollution, despite having black out curtains, the light from outside lit the room. And similarly through the gap in the door. The front door key: had a key but it didn't fit the front door lock. This is why we assumed front door was open all night so people could get in and out. Because, otherwise, you'd be locked out. No one on reception. And fellow guest said they never answered when he rang the phone numbers given. The mess outside: the remains of a marquee. Chandeliers, chairs, rubble and all. Not such a great view if sitting outside. No clock in room: petty one,but it would have been nice Very little water flow and so no hot water from tap in basin. In fact, it ran straight into the overflow pipe. No bar or restaurant, though we knew that prior to visit. Fire procedures: none posted on the doors or walls. This hotel has amazing potential. But at the moment it's just lacking those certain things that make it wonderful. Was it worth the cost for the room. Honestly, I would say no until things get put right.

Stayed here on a Saturday night whilst scouting possible new places to live. Good location, nice room, lovely grounds but a really strange set up. Hotel is not manned due to a lack of staff (their words not mine) so you pick your keys up from the reception desk and let yourself in. Hotel appears to be unlocked all the time which surely is a security issue. Hotel doesn't currently open its bar or restaurant due to the aforementioned staffing issues which is a shame as the bar is quite nice, breakfast being served there in the morning. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice, both hot & cold although my wife wasn't keen on the large "pigs in blankets". Field mushrooms were fabulous. Overall a decent stay was had but this place has the potential to be much better. Would benefit from better soundproofing between rooms, less light pollution from curtains and better water flow in the sink.

Booked a room for 2 members of staff. Booking was confirmed for our requested arrival time. My lads travelled there and the place was locked up and no one was answering phones or emails. Waited an hour and lno one showed up. Had to book another hotel who could get us in last minute, but cost another 200! Very stressful experience. Cannot be trusted to book with!
