This house is good for big groups to stay together. Good location and the host was very helpful.

Good location for a base within walking distance 2.5miles of Newquay centre. Also on the main bus route in. House is well equipped for a weekend break away and is not a chore to just settle in for the day.

Substandard house and unhelpful host. This was not our original house of choice but we were put in this one as an alternative because the host double-booked us. She was unresponsive and difficult to communicate with for the person in our group acting as point of contact. This also continued whilst we were staying in the house when we inevitably had to contact her about problems. For example, the oven not working for the first day. Clearly the house is not maintained properly. On the surface it seems quite nice but you will quickly notice that many items don't work properly: the fridge ice dispenser (which made very loud noises), an upstairs window handle was loose, an upstairs shower head was broken, one of the beds had a broken leg which made it bow in the middle. On top of this there were water leakages coming down the walls from upstairs, wet rot in the annex bathroom, damp lino, dog hair on the rugs, a dirty, crusty sock left in a bedroom. The real icing on the cake was being able to hear rats (or other animals) scurrying around in the walls. When someone is making such a huge amount of money per night to rent this you would think the least they could do is make sure it is safe and clean?

3 months prior to our intended stay at George24 I messaged Isabel to check some last minute details. I was told that she had double booked the property but had another property in a similar location - Qunit17, that we could stay in instead. When given the details it turned out rather than the 3minute walk into town we were expecting Quint17 was 45minutes away, not ideal. As there were so many of us we had to book taxis weeks in advance which was an unforeseen cost, again not ideal but manageable. On arrival the house seemed bright and modern. It turns out that the only room that is bright and modern is the hallway. The downstairs living room was dirty, an uncommonly large number of kitchen appliances and utensils did not work, the ice machine was broken which made the most awful noise, there was no gas the first night (when we called Isabel to ask for assistance we were told what do you want me to do, Im not there), the cinema room smelt awful, there was a leak coming from the cinema room to the kitchen that ran down the wall periodically, the hut tub had not been warmed - it took 8 hours to get it warm and considering there are several reminders around the house not to use it after 10pm we could not use it until the following day due to the 5pm check-in time. Despite stating the main house has 2 ensuites and 1 bathroom, there is only one ensuite that is in the loft room. There is one bath and one enclosed shower on the main floor, meaning there is one functional shower for a floor that sleeps up to 14 people, it also works out as 7 people to a toilet. Everything in the bathrooms felt disgusting, in the room with the bath there was black mould visible, in the shower room again visible mould. The shower fittings had seen better days and it was a balancing act to get it to stay upright. On the landing there is a hole in the floor that has been covered in carpet, we found this out the hard way with one of our group unfortunately catching her foot and rolling her ankle in it. The single beds were reported to be comfortable, however, half of the double beds had crater like dips in the middle meaning you spent the night clinging on to the edge of the bed for dear life or waking in an uncomfortable mound in the middle with whoever you were sharing with. One of the bedrooms also had a rat living in the ceiling which was particularly noisy first thing in the morning. The annexe as a whole was a much better building if you can ignore the damp in the bathroom, and mushrooms growing between the shower tiles. No attempts were made by Isabel to reimburse us for any of the issues we faced, on the contrary she was rude and hostile when called - if she answered. The gas company were kind enough to email us a just eat voucher to apologise for the difficulties with cooking so we could order in . . . it didnt arrive until after our stay.

Quint17 is far from the ideal country retreat we anticipated! Where does one start? I was trying to kick back and relax with the Cornish magazines provided but I was rudely interrupted by scraping noises, which continued for our entire stay. The 'cinema room' resembles more of an outdated and dingy space accompanied with a musty odour. Between this, broken kitchen equipment and an out of order hob for almost a whole day, it is far from what the pictures Air B&B and Tripadvisor promote! Avoid Quint17 and their money-grabbing, poor communication host Isobel!
