Painters beware ! This guy ( John Blakes ) will sack you just like that.... for no reason. I was hired as decorator to paint Cambridge School classrooms, no windows to open and ventilation switched off. Hot like hell 32 degrees & windows you can't really open & faced to west. Got job on price and no problem with the job, 3 days I should finish. On 1st day I was apparently watched by two other painters they looked like apprentices from council estate, later I was told one of them was owner son, for whole day not even 1 word " hello or whatever ". On 2nd day ( 30 degrees again ) I asked politely to School maintenance manager : " is there any chance to switch on ventilation as yesterday it was just crazy hot ? ". After 5 minutes I got phone call from owner ( John ) : " you must leave site now " no explanation whatsoever . Apparently I was grassed by his son for asking ( politely ) for what ? for fresh air in 32 degrees hot ?!. Or my face wasn't Ok. for him ?, was I too old ? too fat ? had beard ? maybe my eyes were wrong colour ? or just wrong colour of my skin or wrong accent ? They ( Blakes ) will treat you like you're work horse & enemy & scum. They won't pay you for first 3 weeks, always 1 week wages in hand. I wonder why ? If you wanna heart attack this looks like best place to try. ps. now pain to get my money for all days on site. Not worth hassle to deal with these guys
