Absolutely stunning As a relatively new PPL holder I had this airfield on my bucket list when it came to places to visit for a while. Today having had the opportunity to fly in I would absolutely do it again within a heartbeat. As it typical of a march day the conditions were a smidge grey, wet and very muddy but that did not take away from the awe of the trip. approaching the island from the north you can really appreciate the terrane and scenery. crossing the Solent and taking a scenic detour around the whole island is a real treat especially if you get to race the hovercraft. upon arriving Danial was very helpful when it came to advising on where to park as not to sink into the mud. Myself and my passengers had bacon roles which were very filling. During the summer to my knowledge Pizza is available and cooked in a pizza oven so that is something definitely worth trying in the future. The landing fee is 18 which is very reasonable. PPR is not required. However, I would still get on the phone to discus conditions potential NOTAMs and traffic levels and perhaps surface conditions if it is wet. The runway is 880m and at the time we visited we were in a PA-28R at almost MTOW with damp and grass conditions however were able to take off and climb out with our calculated safety margins. but do make sure you have your landing and takeoff calculations handy, especially taking into account runway conditions and the slope. All in all. If you have not flown in before to this airfield, you should really consider it.
