Caffe 1901 Bistro is eating for the Instagram generation with the decor and presentation of dishes reflecting that priority. Service is amiable but aloof and inattentive. Food was unfortunately nothing to write home about and mediocre, especially considering the price. My companion had a breakfast hash bowl but found much of it inedible - particularly the potato. I had the full English which was disappointing. I wasnt offered a choice of eggs and was surprised to be presented with poached. Bacon was over cooked. Sausages tasted slightly odd. It may be the mix. Its rather sad when the highlight of a Full English is the hash browns. A pot of tea (allegedly for two) was rather stingy. The aesthetics are very pleasing but sadly that would not be enough to bring me back to this over priced establishment.

This place is absolutely on the money, friendly and attentive staff with great food. The coffee is absolutely brilliant aswell, best in Jesmond I reckon. The only reason this place doesnt get 5 stars is because of the service. I went two mornings in a row (before the que build up) and unfortunately both mornings I had to wait at least 30 minutes for the food to be brought out. If the service can be sped up I honestly cant see any faults with this place.
