I 100% recommend this shop to anyone who is looking for a special piece of jewellery. When looking for an engagement ring it was cruitial to me that it was antique, ethical and it came from a special place. I will always remember fondly the day I came to Margarets shop, how friendly and endearing she is and her impressive knowledge of jewellery. I explained my requirements and she showed me a beautiful Edwardian diamond ring, which was perfect for me. Getting engaged is a major life event and therefore I wanted everything to be perfect, including the experience of choosing the ring, and I can say it absolutely was, Thanks so much :)

Such a fantastic antique shop. I purchased my fianc's beautiful antique engagement ring from here and can't recommend the place enough. Margaret was incredibly helpful, taking ring measurements (where other jewellers had incorrectly suggested a larger size), getting it resized and simply making the experience as happy as it should be. She has a wealth of experience in antique jewelry and her post in the Guardian is a testament to it and really made us feel that we were purchasing a ring with real meaning and value.

I first visited Margaret Begley Greys Antique Shop on 41 Castle Gate, Newark in late December. I wanted to repair 7 items of jewellery ranging from a sapphire/diamond ring, antique watches and costume designer jewellery. I was told by Margaret that there would be a wait of approximately 4-6 weeks, but that she would gladly get a quotation for the works to be carried out. As a London resident who was visiting the area I gave my number to her and was told that if I left my jewellery I would soon be contacted. After hearing nothing at all from Margaret for over 4 weeks, I decided to call and request information. I was greeted by a irritable tone from Margaret, as though my call was not wanted and that I was bothering her. I felt quite helpless as I was unable to just pop by and speak with her. I didnt feel confident after this point that my custom was of any significance and became concerned about the welfare of my jewellery. At no point did I become argumentative; instead I became apologetic for seemingly bothering Margaret and agreed that I would wait for further contact. Another 4 weeks went by with no correspondence from Margaret. By the end of March after calling Margaret and being rudely and argumentatively spoken to I decided to arrange to collect my jewellery. After traveling from London to Newark I was expecting to be greeted by an apologetic business owner as I was honestly appalled by the level of customer service. When arriving at the shop to collect the jewellery that had been untouched for over 3 months I was verbally attacked by Margaret who made personal comments with no connection to my jewellery. I believe she was defensive about the terrible service as there was no other reason for her comments. She is clearly incapable of running her business with care and seemed overwhelmed by workload. I would advise anyone interested in good service to steer well clear. I felt deeply offended and appalled by the attitude of the owner of such a business.
