Hadn't heard of Sound Mirrors before until I saw it on Google maps when in the area - decided it was worth a short walk to take a look (as well as a bit of reading to understand the actual purpose of them!) The walk over is mostly on stoney ground (as it is in much of this area!) And located in Lade Pits area. To access where the actual mirrors are you have to go on an open day as there is a swing bridge that needs to be unlocked. You can however see them from the swing bridge where there is a little bit of info - quite impressive.

A great experience. We did a guided talk of the site. What you might not know from the site without a guide is that it's the only place where the three styles of sound mirrors exist together. Worth reading about before you visit.

Though we couldn't get close up, these were an incredible thing to see. Built in the second world war as acoustic mirrors that could detect enemy aircraft up to 20 miles away this is a very important part of the history of the south east of England, as well as a vital modernist architectural gem. Not only that, it's a lovely walk. Park on the Coast Drive opposite Taylor Avenue, then walk down Taylor Avenue and you'll see a sign for the Mirrors. A 20 minute walk across the shingle. Look out for the bird life. We saw Curlews, Reed Buntings, Coot, Pochard, Cormorant, Oyster Catchers and more, many in-flight. Great views over the marsh to Lydd Airport, Dungeness Power Station. Some incredible plant life too.
