Due to some unforeseen and very difficult circumstances, I had the pleasure of taking some respite care at Nettleton Manor. Being way below the average age of clients and residents, it was a very daunting experience. Ive had no previous experience of nursing homes so had no idea what to expect. The care I received here was second to none; highly compassionate and caring staff throughout the entire establishment who I witnessed literally running through corridors to ensure that residents received even and essential care. There were many residents that presented very complex care needs and who, through no fault of their own, were apt to attacking staff and being extremely hostile.I was unfortunately in ear shot of a lot of these and all I can say is that the staff deserve medals for never breaking character, remaining calm and collected and never displaying any sort of frustration nor vehemence. Family visitors who couldnt get to grips with their loved ones developing dementia, Alzheimers or similar illnesses did prove problematic but again, the management maintained total compassion when being shouted at and were able to console and calm those family members. At a time when Corona restrictions were in place causing staff reductions, including having to deal with spontaneous outbreaks of Corona related issues, it was astounding to see how the staff went above and beyond to cover missing staff and cover an extra work load. Hearing the panic if a resident was left for a split second longer than should be, it was clearly obvious that there was a pride in managing duties and caring. Christmas time was made truly festive, extra effort was made by the staff donning Christmas attire, baking goodies, arranging festive activities with no volunteers able to lend a hand. Spirits were kept high at the worst possible time of peoples lives. At my time there, I can recount 8 deaths of residents ranging from long term residents to short stayers. Each person was treated with the upmost dignity and were genuinely mourned - how most of them were able to return to work the following day is almost superhuman! From the management, nursing staff, general carers, night carers, maintenance man, gardener and cooks, each and everyone seemed fully invested in their vocation. I cannot thank you all enough for your true care and consideration, returning me to a bearable function and getting my weight back up. I grew so fond of many residents and the only difficulty I had whilst there was having to witness truly sweet people expire. One particular gentlemans death was truly heartbreaking. Knowing that caring staff were close by his side was and is so comforting.

Nettleton Manor is dedicated to providing a very high standard of care. Any complaints about our standards of care are taken very seriously and investigated thoroughly. These particular allegations were made by Ms Law to Safeguarding without referring such allegations to the Management of Nettleton Manor prior. These allegations were investigated immediately by the Management of Nettleton Manor. Nettleton Manors very detailed 23 page report of the investigations - containing 14 witness statements and testimonials - was submitted to Safeguarding on 11th May 2015. Safeguarding confirm that the allegations have now been thoroughly investigated and they conclude that there is absolutely no evidence of neglect in this case, i.e there is no case to answer. We have subsequently learnt that Ms Law made these allegations to Safeguarding with the influence and assistance of another Nursing Home within a close proximity of Nettleton Manor. It is unfortunate that these unfounded allegations by Ms Law and were posted here prior to a full investigation being carried out, and before independent factual evidence could be gathered.

My Mother spent 10 days in Nettleton Manor. On my first visit with her at 2pm I found her sitting in her nightie, and wet, Mum is incontinent and has very limited mobility. I asked if she had called for assistance to get to the toilet and cleaned up, she had been buzzing for half an hour. She also said that she had not been washed or showered and clearly not dressed. When carers did respond I requested that Mum be washed or bathed, after much debate this was achieved at 3pm. On another occassion Mum asked to go to bed at 3pm for a nap, no problem. At 5pm when she woke she called for the carers to help her up so that she could eat her tea and she also needed the toilet. She was told that they were too busy, and they'd just have to clean her up later. It was 7:30 before the carers returned to assist Mum. It was after this that I filed a Safeguarding concern with the Council. The owner was clearly upset by this and told my sister that if we did not apologise and withdraw the complaint he wanted Mum moved out within 72 hours. Thanks to our wonderful Key Worker from Social Services/Lincoln, Mum was moved within 24 hours.
