2020 was the year I decided I needed to lose weight and get fit. My weight had steadily climbed over the last few years from getting older and chronic stress eating. My brother and father both have heart disease and Id just found out my cholesterol was getting dangerously high. So I joined the gym in Chester at the end of January and thought Id pound the treadmills and sweat it out on the rowing machine for a few months and get myself more in shape before getting bored and cancelling my membership. Little did I know, that was not what was in store for 2020. A nice, friendly, polite young man with biceps bulging out of his T-shirt introduced himself as Kieran and did my gym induction. He then asked me if Id like to sign up for some personal training sessions. Nah, I thought, that will cost a fortune and I dont want to spend my time being shouted at and feeling inadequate. After a little gentle persuasion, I gave in and signed up for a trial. What did I have to lose? Well it seems I had 3.5 stone, my expanding waistline, my high cholesterol and my low self esteem to lose. I am so much leaner, stronger, fitter and healthier than I could ever have imagined in my wildest dreams. Lockdown closed the gym in March but this didnt stop Kieran. He started sending me plans to complete at home every week, with little to no equipment I lost my first stone and developed some self love. Kieran gently guides you to build your confidence and then, wham, you find youre enjoying yourself and he pushes you to aim for the stars. Kieran is amazing. He has a wealth of skill, knowledge, enthusiasm, ingenuity and, most importantly, patience. He is gentle and kind when you need him to be, but he will push and drive you to achieve so much more than you thought possible. He is able to adapt his training style to suit the person he is training and can adapt to any situation. This year I have gone from gym training face to face, to emailed plans and videos, to online 1-1 FaceTime sessions, to outdoor Covid secure 1-1 sessions, week long 1-1 boot camps, back to the gym and back outside in the middle of winter. Kieran has proved time and time again that he can adapt to the ever changing circumstances this year has brought. From amazing sessions with very little equipment, to a fantastic mobile gym with all the equipment youd expect (and more) and some ingenious touches such as a cable system and an awning to protect you from the worst the Great British weather can throw at you. 11 months down the line, I have far surpassed my original aims. I have gained muscle, strength, self esteem, fitness and health. Kieran has literally given me my life back, both physically and mentally, and he has reliably been by my side for the whole journey and continues to keep on guiding and driving me forward, even now. Ive recently started a nutrition plan, even though Ive lost the weight I needed to, just because I want to see how much more I can achieve. Im not done yet! If you are unsure about taking the first step and investing in some PT sessions with KJE Fitness, dont be. I promise you, you wont regret it. I certainly didnt.

I started a graduate job in September 2019 in North Wales, a fair distance away from family and friends, and initially joined a gym to keep myself occupied outside of work. Although I enjoy the gym, I find it quite difficult to motivate myself and far too easy to cheat during workouts. I was pointed in the direction of Kieran by a colleague in summer 2020 and despite some initial reservations, have found I have really enjoyed my first experience of personal training. Lockdown was especially difficult over summer as I could not see friends/family and found that personal training was a great stress relief, especially as work has been increasingly tough. Kieran is highly adaptable- I have experienced a mixture of home work out plans, online coaching, nutrition plans, training in the gym, joint HIIT sessions with a colleague (we are both at different levels fitness wise but the joint sessions have been enjoyable for both of us) and one to one training sessions in a park setting. I work long hours as a vet and have been able to train after work (any time between 8pm and 9pm) which is a massive bonus as (pre covid!) team sports are usually extremely difficult to join as they usually have an early start time. I've enjoyed watching Kieran build his business with boundless enthusiasm. He has a natural flair for coaching and is always gently encouraging- initially, training was just an outlet for work which I didn't take that seriously, but since increasing to two sessions a week, I have found that I have rapidly achieved personal goals I didn't think possible. Kieran also takes sporting injuries into account- I had surgery on my cruciate ligament a couple of years ago but have managed to build up quite comfortably to 50kg barbell squats, with an aim to increase to 60kg in the new year. I can perform these exercises without experiencing pain in my knee, which is an achievement in itself, but I put it down to Kieran slowly building up both my strength and my confidence. I am moving to a new place of work in Preston early January, but am aiming to continue training with KJE Fitness. I am hoping when lockdown restrictions ease I can join a gym and will be using Kieran's workout plans during the week. I then aim to have a one to one session once a fortnight- Kieran is willing to meet half way, which is a huge advantage to finding a reliable mobile personal trainer- it would be a huge shame to not continue training with him considering he has helped me progress so rapidly. I also plan to continue to utilise online training sessions- again, this has been a huge advantage to KJE- especially during lockdown with ever changing rules and regulations. To quote- "the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence, it's greener where you water it". (K Evan's, no et al, 2020)- and it's very fair to say Kieran has grasped the opportunity during lockdown 1.0 to build a fantastic business. Thank you Kieran for all your hard work and patience! It is so very appreciated!
