I was surprised by an uncoperative staff member and manager who refused to do a bank transaction for me, despite Head office /call centre approval and instruction to do this. I then pointed out 3 seperate Head Office staff had told me the Branch had no reason to refuse. It was even noted on my computer record. The manager then stunned me in front of everyone by saying that the aforementioned Head office/call centre staff needed educating. She even told me the name of the person she would be reprimanding due to his experience (Andrew). When I asked if I could tell them this she said "go ahead". Not for one minute did the manager consider my needs and the fact that everyone else was of a different and more customer friendly opinion. I contacted immediately Head office, who were extremely helpful and professional and confirmed the manager was wrong and did the transaction free of charge. They also encouraged me to complain to Head office about the manager, who are now processing this. I would recommend contacting Head Office if there are any issues with this branch. Most of the staff, especially Alison, (who has a far better personality to be manager) are extremely helpful. However they are clearly being supported to avoid difficult transactions without regard to unifomity within the organisation. The manager ought to apologise to the hard working and helpful colleagues in call centres and head office. Her comments about them were unprofessional. In fact, they were proved correct, and she was wrong, as I never doubted. For this i was told to apologise and then refused a full equivalent cash withdrawal, previously offered, because I insisted they were wrong and Head office right. I would like to thank the lady in customer services who did the transaction for me and was so helpful. She restored my confidence in the building society and was genuinely concerned about my transaction. She went above and beyond her role and I would give 5 stars to her.

Not pleased with this Building society at all. Applied to switch my buy to let mortgage deal with rival bank /Building society and Was told initially through a mortgage broker I made the criteria and should not be a problem and even had a offer in principle....8 weeks later they refused they didn't even have the courtesy to inform me!!! I had to chase it up through e -mail's and phone calls Applied to Godiva mortgage's and got a offer within a week !!!

Very small office, and not great levels of interest offered on savings. Sadly for a business that is supposed to be about looking after its members they seem more interested in making money for themselves. Clearly forgotten their roots, sad to see.

Great counter staff, good mortgages, excellent at closing branches and getting rid of vital stuff like cheque books and online access to your account. Stuck in the past with 300 cash limit(being like that for decades) and refusal to join link system so you have to travel miles to the branch to withdraw money rather than the cash machine 200yards away(very green policy) Don't even give you a card with your name, account no. or signature on but expect you to carry id around with you(passport or driving licence) just to check your balance despite being a member for 35 plus years.
