When we first visited Oak Grange we thought wed found a home for my Gran that would take care of her with dignity, empathy and respect. From the outside it certainly appeared that way, the entrance and welcome was always pleasant and the staff were usually friendly. For the brief period my Gran resided in the home my family resorted to organizing a rota, so we had peace of mind that she wouldnt be left to fend for herself. Unless we were there, she would often be left without a drink and expected to take herself to the toilet (she has dementia and very poor mobility) and as a result picked up an infection. Due to my insistence that she be seen by a nurse one evening, a doctor was called in to the home to assess her. He told me if she doesnt receive antibiotics tonight shell be septic in hospital tomorrow. The staff asked me if I could collect the prescription and on my return there was nobody on site, other than a cleaner. The following day I was shocked to hear another family member was firmly told by the receptionist that, she is in our care now and asked why I had given her the medicine. As a family, we were worried at the lack of attention for our gran but also the other residents who were left in bed all day or to wander around alone confused. An events organiser? approached me one day to tell me about the activities my Gran had participated in that day. Im unsure as to why she felt the need to falsify stories of her care, we knew she wouldnt be able to participate and our visiting schedule that particular day meant she couldnt have attended painting class as she claimed. With my daily visits I saw the same residents ignored, shouted at and left to soil themselves. When we told a carer that one lady was asking for help with this she replied Its OK, she has a pad on. In my line of work, I have come across numerous care homes, most of which are council-ran. None as bad as Oak Grange in Mollington, Chester. I found the lack of staff to be poor and the management to be apathetic and dishonest. If you have a relative that requires any form of care this isnt the place for them.

This care home is outstanding, if it was a hotel, it would be without doubt 5*. Clearly Barchester hold this home in high regard as they are constantly making investments in updating the service to the highest standard. It has recently had a makeover which is stunning and as soon as you walk in your greeted by a feeling that lets you know your in a facility that prides itself on high standards, in addition to this, they have recently appointed a new manager who goes above and beyond without a second thought and clearly leads by example, Im so glad our family found oak grange because it has been a blessing knowing that mum will live out her final years, happy and cared for to the highest standard

Despite the difficulty of the past two years I have continued to receive a warm welcome at Oak Grange. The staff should be incredibly proud of the fact that they have continued to provide an exceptionally high standard of care in spite of the difficult circumstances.
