Almost impossible to contact customer service!! Then when you actually do you then have to wait to be contacted if the problem is not simple. Then fobbed off and spoken to like you don't matter. Anyone at VW needs to remember that its the people who buy your cars that keep you in a job! We might not all be able to afford a new car every year but think on if you treat customers like they don't matter..... you may not have one! VW used to be a brand that stood for reliability, value and longevity.......not any more!!!! I have a 63 reg VW golf that has done 55000 miles. At approx 36000 miles and approx 3 1/2 years it had a gearbox repair at a main dealer because the differential was noisey. I had to pay for this. The repair failed and was done again very shortly afterwards and then a VW replacement gearbox was fitted shortly after that when the second repair failed. Now after only 16000 miles the gearbox has failed again! Dreadful noise in 5th gear. The VW retailer was unable to even look at it for 24 days and I was facing the prospect of a 2800+vat bill if it needed a replacement plus labour...... I approached VW who just fobbed me off and said " how did I know it was the gearbox as it had not been diagnosed ? " OK the car is now 7.5years old but at just over 3 yrs the diff bearings failed and now only 16000 miles later the 5th gears have lost teeth, obviously not manufactured to a good standard.......very poor. I am not that naive that I think owning a car does not come with some costly bills, but no one would expect any car to have such issues let alone a VW at 55000 miles to have had two gearbox repairs, a replacement gearbox and then another repair! Obviously the gearbox was not fit for purpose or durable enough. Because of the frightening thought of yet another huge bill and the dealer who did the original work not being able to even look at the car for weeks I eventually ended up getting the gearbox overhauled by a very reputable independent gearbox specialist in Peterborough. All at a very reasonable cost too, less than a third of the price of a VW replacement! After owning 14 VW cars, including several new ones, over the last 37 years I will be thinking very long and hard about buying another one and of course I am free to tell my familly, friends and associates about my dreadful experience with VW, the build quality, durability and reliability of its cars! Not the same as it used to be ! Come on VW be a bit more interested in helping a loyal customer ! If this is the present face of VW why would anyone want to buy one?

I have a Polo R-Line Reg 26.02.23. Serviced and MOT at Vertu Motors in Mansfield on 22.03.23 Mileage 10.735 On the 14.03.23, the clutch burned out ( mileage 10875 ) Contacted VW, said they couldnt help as I didnt have roadside assistance. Required private breakdown service to get myself and my wife home after 2.5 hrs waiting in a blizzard. Not sure of cost as awaiting bill. Car is not drivable as it had nearly caught fire when clutch went. Smoke filled interior. VW do not accept that it is unusual for a car and mileage such as the Polo to have this problem. I replied that clutch burn out and the need for replacement should not be happening. Silence from VW. Have alternative but to take VW to court, which I will commence on-line on the16.03.23

I have been waiting for a build date for nearly 2 years. This is ridiculous and totally unacceptable from a company who claim to build cars for the people. I am in desperate need of a car . My my has been diagnosed with cancer and VW will not provide a temporary car unit the ca confirm a build date. Please avoid the company. They care about profits before people in need who are in a tough circumstances.
