Incredible history stretch fro the Tudors to WW2 at this impressive defensive castle. The isolated location at the end of the spit adds to the atmosphere. The walk along the spit is good fun as is the alternative of the small ferry from Keyhaven. Excellent coffee and sandwiches from the caf by the entrance too.

The ferry journey was lovley, about 15 mins to get to Castle, they run very regularly from Keyhaven. The cafe/kiosk is very small, not sure how they will cope with a summer rush. a few benches, so bring you own picnic, no cafe inside castle. We thought the views were outstanding, very close to Isle of Wight, It was dog friendly too. a few interactive buttons for children in the Lighthouse information rooms. but on a whole we were disappointed with the castle itself, as a significant amount was out of bounds or just empty. Some of the cordonded off areas were due to the storm damage repair work. lots of uneven surfaces and steps, so not suitable for people who are not very mobile. Toilets left a bit to be desired.
