Lumen are a fantastic advocate of the arts and sciences and where the two collide. They provide opportunities, inspiration and support for artists to make and show artwork. I have been fortunate enough to take part in a few of Lumen's numerous activities, including a residency in the Lake District which was a thoroughly rewarding experience. Can't recommend them highly enough.

I recently curated a show in the Lumen crypt space and in the church above. The team were attentive and helped me with anything I needed including storage space and got back to me quickly with any concerns I had.

If you are an artist looking to show your work, go elsewhere. This enterprise is completely unprofessional. The venue is situated beside a church. There is no signage anywhere to show there is an art 'gallery' inside (better make sure your marketing is first class!) The entrance, just near the church, is dirty and unloved and often frequented by the homeless community when they need to urinate. We paid 550 and a deposit of 100. No one was there to greet us when we arrived and we were informed by others using the building that we were supposed to man the reception to prevent intruders getting in. So yes, for your money you are also expected to become security guards for an entire building. The atmosphere from others in the building is hostile, they clearly don't like this 'gallery' being here. Very difficult for public to get good access. Cables were left in place that weren't meant to be there so we weren't able to lock the door to the 'gallery' for 2 days. So while we were responsible for the security of everyone else in the building, there was no consideration for ours. After set-up, some paint had been lifted from the floor and, although this could easily have been resolved with a quick lick of paint, they decided our 100 deposit should not be returned as a result. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Lumen are an amazing trio of artists who have crafted a really wonderful organisation. Working with them is always joyous and informative. One of the nicest things is that are no ego's to contend with and I get the impression they also like dealing with people who don't force their ego's on others. I've been lucky enough to be involved in 4 different events through Lumen, there are have been a couple I've missed, but I absolutely trust their curatorial eye. They always put together very interesting shows.

Ive been going to events at this unique exhibition space near Bethnal Green for over 4 years. A beautifully restored crypt, it provides instant atmosphere for emerging artists to share their work. Lumen have created a supportive environment for all sorts of creative events. A do-it-yourself setup, they are there to help along the way. I used the space for ten days and found them professional and quick to answer queries. Great experience.
