Had the opportunity to look round The Gables today. It was lovely to see the interaction between staff and residents and how cared for they all are. Mark, the manager was very friendly and gave me lots of information. The Activity Coordinator, Alison, has loads going on and was also helpful and enthusiastic. A lovely care home for people living in the area.

Visited The Gables today, it must be the hottest day of the year! Residents were enjoying ice lollies and chatting about the seaside. It was lovely to see how much care the staff were taking of the residents. Maintenance man Chris has done a wonderful job with the lillies and planters at the entrance!

Investigated by the CQC for failing to provide staff with adequate PPE at the start of the pandemic. This home lost 1/3 of its residents as a consequence of poor covid management. My mum was a staff member here who has had life changing injuries as a consequence of covid caught at The Gabels. Staff lost their jobs under the investigation but sadly people dont get to hear this stuff and they arent sorry for their failings.

Trust me on this, I have seen quite a few scruffy residential care homes in awful area's of Stockton, that I wouldn't never go near again if anyone paid me. This care home is one of the exceptional one's. They look like they have good taste in decor, especially. I know the look of a care home isn't everything, but it's important to consider the look of the rooms, so that you can consider whether it looks comfy enough. I'm glad to see that this care home has carpets, because if a care home resident has a bad fall, at least they will have a soft landing. Honestly, the number of residential care homes I've seen that have those unsafe laminated wooden flooring, it's beggars belief. I know it's less work for cleaners if care homes have floorboards instead of carpet, but the resident is far more likely to get concussion if they fall onto a hard floor, and then that just makes more work for the ambulance people who have to cart our poor relative to hospital. I'm frustrated that the CQC haven't considered that. I wouldn't like to be responsible for anyone's relative falling onto a very hard, slippery surface. I'm pleased that this care home looks very homely and comfy. It really does look very homely. Nice.
