A great off road haven for keen cyclists. I use it purely for leisure and to be able to listen to music relatively safely. Unlike the Wirral Way, this route has an excellent surface throughout, so great for those expensive, shiny road bikes hauled out on sunny days :D From Neston I pick up the Greenway at Deeside (having reached there via Burton Point on the MOD route and cycling under the dual carriageway bridge). You can pick up the Greenway by heading for (what was) the covid testing site on the industrial estate. Follow the tarmac road around the testing centre. Coupled with the Dee coastal path, it makes a perfect off road circuit The best way to cut through to join the two routes if heading clockwise up the greenway first seems to be by taking the turnoff just after the turn to the canal tow path and then briefly cycle on road, riding past the back end of the Greyhound estate (stadium road, then left at the lights) to join up with the Dee coastal path. This route does cut out the option of a cafe stop further down the Greenway but honestly, unless in a group, who wants to leave their expensive bikes unattended, however briefly, for the sake of coffee and cake? Which way I go (clockwise or anti-clockwise), is determined by the direction of the headwind on the exposed coastal path! The anticlockwise route means heading for the bridge at Shotton (choose a righthand option when faced with a fork on the greenway), then taking a left just before the river bridge to hit the coastal path. Cross the main road at Garden City and continue to Chester. The full circuit from Burton Point is about 35km.
