My experience with Tax Link has been pretty terrible. To begin with, the exchange of information was pretty old school attaching bank statements and invoices to emails which I didn't feel was particularly secure. They usually replied emails relatively quick, although sometimes it could take them quite a bit longer, taking them nearly 2 months to give me a response in one occasion. I also had to tell them the VAT calculations for the quarter were wrong a couple of times and I had to be on top of things to make sure calculations were correct since then. For my first annual return, they sent me an email with what I had to pay that I really struggled to understand as a first-time director of a limited company. They tend to make a lot of assumptions that you have a good understanding of all the elements of accountancy (when this is why I hired them in the first place). In the end, I missed the fact that I had to return a document as I detail below. Due to the feeling that the accountancy of my limited company was not reliable enough and I always had this feeling of nervousness and lack of peace of mind because I could be missing something, I decided to switch accountants. It was a nightmare. The new accountancy company asked me for the most recent accounts and it took Tax Link nearly two month to provide the information required. They also refused to give me the Trial balance up to the date I left, arguing that it wasnt part of their service (although my understanding is this should be part of the book keeping that it does include) and asked me 200+VAT to prepare the trial balance when they charged me 30 for the annual return the previous year. In the end, they stopped replying my emails so I had to ask my new accountant to calculate everything up to that point for the financial year again, having to pay twice for the same job. The new accountancy company also warned me that the annual return hadnt been filed for the previous year (which I had paid almost 6 months before) and the deadline was in 2 weeks. I had to chase Tax Link a few times to get this done in time. Their argument was that I hadnt returned the document from the email signed off so they didnt do it (and apparently also forgot about it), when their email didnt mention I had to return anything. Finally, several months after I left Tax Link, they kept sending me emails asking me to provide bank statements and invoices for the quarter VAT submission when I clearly wasnt their client anymore. Overall, not a great experience. I wouldnt recommend them as a first-time director like I was.
