Our sessions with Will have been transformative. He took my son (age 11 when we started having lessons with him) to a Grade 3 distinction, largely via Zoom in the middle of Covid - then to Grade 4 face to face, and now working towards Grade 5. For me - someone who started with classical guitar as a kid, but was put off by his teacher at the time, Will has rekindled my desire to learn and improve, and thanks to his careful tuition I'm playing rock, jazz, blues - things I never thought I'd be able to tackle. Will's knowledge of playing, music theory, history and technique is encyclopaedic, and over the time we've been going to him, I've heard him play pretty much every style I can think of, so whatever kind of music you want to play, he's the right choice. His attention to detail is amazing - whether in person or over a remote connection, but crucially, he has an ability to convey this to to his students with a balance of encouragement and constructive criticism that lets you know exactly what you need to do to correct issues, in a way that provides the motivation to go home and practice to get better. Weve seen Will play at some local gigs; Ive watched plenty of live bands, but Ive never seen the kind of reaction in the room that happens when Will is playing - the staff as well as the crowd have their phones out videoing the performance. To watch him play Stevie Ray Vaughans Scuttle Buttin, note-perfect, is nothing short of phenomenal. Before we started having lessons with Will I considered joining one of the many internet guitar tuition programmes. They are fairly cheap, very highly produced and look great. But I realised early on with Will, that even though Im paying attention, there are mistakes Im making that Im completely oblivious to, but which would really limit the progress that can be made later (such as a very subtle issue with picking technique that would impede speed or accuracy at higher levels). Will spots these issues instantly - they would never be picked using an online programme and would have a lasting detrimental effect. This put to rest any questions I had about paying for in-person lessons. For me, our lessons with Will are a real pleasure - something I look forward to as a switch-off from work. The evidence that its working for my son is there when the boy plugs in and plays every day at home, having ridden through rough patches where it looked like he might follow my original path and put the guitar on its stand, possibly for good. That he's preparing for G5, and thinking about what guitar he might like to buy afterwards, is testimony to Will's teaching style, and engaging manner with his students. I can't imagine a better tutor.

Will Hay is a great teacher as well as a very experienced musician - and very kind and patient! He successfully tailors my classes to my musical interests and can teach any style of playing or ability level. I look forward to my half hour lesson and would recommend Will to anybody who wants to learn the guitar

Will is a great guitar teacher. Within minutes of the first lesson he knew exactly what to work on. He has significantly improved my technique and theory over the last 12 months. He is patient, approachable and highly knowledgeable.

Myself and my Grandson have been having lessons with Will for about 3 years now and cant recommend him highly enough. He explains things clearly, helps out with problems, gives good advice and is very patient! If you want to play classical, jazz or Hendrix, Will is your man.

Will is a fantastic teacher and phenomenal guitarist, as a mature student I was apprehensive of getting lessons but Will soon made all my worries go away, Will's teaching method is relaxed and really does teach you all aspects of guitar. I cannot recommend him enough.
