This is a lovely friendly pub and the food is very tasty and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend. 5stars plus. Food & drinks: Very good value

We recently stayed at this hotel and, in their defence, they were having work done to the hotel while we were there, so there is every chance these issues may be resolved soon. However, the room we stayed in was mouldy, very dirty and had a bad smell. The drains had a foul smell and we had to buy spray for the carpets to try and combat the dog/cigarette smell in the room. The room itself was quaint, but the small window on the back wall let light in (as there was no curtain over it) and the furniture was stained. We also found a dirty spoon down the side of the bedside table, a dog biscuit in bathroom and we had to wipe the walls where there was toothpaste and coffee stains. The staff did seem nice and the person who checked us in did explain he had recently taken the place over, so he was under stress with staffing issues so this may have explained the dirtiness of the room. We did end up checking out a day early as we just couldnt stand the smell in the room anymore. I would also mention that this hotel is at the top of Matlock, so its a steep hill to walk down back from town.
