I have always had good experiences when dining at the Copt Oak, Whitwick. Unfortunately, yesterday's was very far from it. There were 4 of us in our party. Mine and my father in law's meals were dreadful He ordered the Steak and Ale pie. The honey glazed carrots were so dry, they were inedible, as was the pastry on the pie I ordered the chargrilled chicken, bacon and avocado salad. There were a number of issues here. The chicken wasn't chargrilled. It was small, poor quality, chicken fillet pieces that had been quite possibly warmed in a microwave, there were no 'chargrill' marks on it and it looked frankly anaemic. There was no bacon on the salad. The ranch dressing was basically a pool of white water with chives in it in the bottom of the bowl . No taste and no 'substance' to it. To go with it, I ordered the 'cheesy home-made garlic bread'. This turned out to be a ciabatta, scored into a diamond pattern, brushed with garlic butter / oil and sprinkled with parmesan / Gran Moravia. There was so little garlic butter that it hadn't even permeated beyond the crust, so tasted simply of warmed bread. Rather disappointing. For dessert, myself and my wife ordered the trio of ice creams. We were told that it was chocolate, blood orange and vanilla. When it arrived, the blood orange ice cream was actually strawberry and it had ice crystals in it so it had obviously been defrosted and refrozen at one or more points previously. Given the food bill came to over 70 overall, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the meal.
