This is not a review of The Injury Clinic generally - as other reviews will tell you, what Chris and Sophie have done is build a remarkable business that combines first class customer service with cutting edge treatment and that is why I have been using them since 2017 when he was still based at the rugby club.
This review is specifically about the Shockwave Therapy treatment. I was struggling with chronic achilles tendonitis for 14 months after aggravating it severely on Scottish heather climbing 5 Munros and went to see Chris after trying to exercise my way out of it. I had tried heat, cold, rest, exercise and nothing worked. Chris assessed and recommended Shockwave Therapy - a course of 6 sessions over 12 weeks moving from weekly to monthly.
Doing my own research on the treatment - the research data was convincing - it helps about 90% of patients. It's an odd sensation - like having an elastic band flicked repeatedly at the skin - but it numbs off after 10 seconds or so and is not painful. You rest it for 24 hours after treatment, but otherwise carry on training as usual.
Does it instantly solve the problem? - No...but it does something quite remarkable - it resets the injury so that it is a fresh injury that can be worked with, rather than an intransigent chronic injury. This meant that combining the treatment with strengthening exercises meant I could feel real improvements very quickly and am now on the build back to full strength and fitness.
