I had pericoronitis (as diagnosed later) with discharge of pus recurring almost daily. I explained the problem to the dentist and she told me I just needed to improve my oral hygiene. Obviously you don't need a degree in medicine to understand that when your wisdom tooth is partially erupted and partially covered with a flap of gum, you cannot brush inside the pocket between the tooth and the gum: it was just an idiotic comment. Food, on the other hand, gets dissolved in saliva and can easily get there and promote bacterial growth. After she told me about the oral hygiene she started to reccomend a bite for clicking jaw (around 200) and a general cleaning. This was the second time that a dentist failed to acknowledge the problem and tried to milk money out of me without even trying to listen to what I was saying. Luckily, after the fourth visit, and 3 dentists seen, and lots of money wasted, I was referred to hospital and recommended to have the wisdom tooth extracted (which I did last week and fixed the problem). This disgusting attitude is something you should be profoundly ashamed of because teeth can cause serious health problems. You are doctors! You should listen to your patient and be attentive when you visit them. I had this problem, which had affected me psychologically for 3 years because of incompetent and selfish people like the dentist who visited me here and in the previous clinic. I'm a student and I'm self supporting myself working in hospitality and I don't have time nor money to waste. Yet I think I still have the same dignity as any other human being that you should respect (google medical ethics maybe you never heard about it) by showing compassion.
