We chose MTF roofing to carry out a full re-roof and replacement of sofits, fascias and gutters because of the glowing online reviews and company write ups that promised all the right things. On meeting one of MTF's owners for a quote the initial communication was great, we were impressed by his professionalism and so went ahead with signing the contract. Unfortunately from the work commencing through to completion we were far from impressed and were left regretting having chosen MTF to carry out works on our home. Although the completed work looked good from the kerbside, from the rear and on closer inspection there were a catalogue of issues. Firstly MTF use sub contractors for their re-roofs (something we were unaware of until the roofers arrived) on first impressions alone the gang that half turned up to start work were far from what we were expecting. Although initially seeming perfectly friendly we had concerns about their reliability, professionalism and trustworthiness which later proved to be well founded. My partner called MTF after their first day to politely raise some concerns with said owner about the roofing team we were sent and he was confidently promised that although they're sub contracted they have done work for MTF for years and are excellent tradesmen and he would state his companies reputation on them. A bold statement so we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Much to our despair, extra cost and inconvenience it turns out the MTF owners are not as attentive when the roofers say they have finished, despite leaving a mess and poor workmanship along with damaging items and property as well as taking things that did not belong to them. Here are just some of the problems we found by checking their work each time they left the property and on completion. The roof was then inspected by building control, another roofing company and advised on by one of the product manufacturers, all of whom have confirmed that parts of the roof were poorly or incorrectly installed. Roll out ventilated dry ridge membrane not installed on ridge (required by timloc manufacturers), Roll out ventilated dry membrane poorly tented over hips, Plastic hip trays ordered and delivered but not installed as expected (required by product manufactures), 3 aesthetically faulty hip tiles, 1 aesthetically faulty ridge tile, Rows of scuff marks down sides of most hip tiles, Dozens of rips in the roofing membrane on all 4 sides including a cigarette burn, Gutters holding upto 3cm of standing water, Gutters cut too short or long for unions, Gutter gasket not installed correctly, Soffits capped not replaced, Parts of sofits bounce when pushed, Inadequate expansion gaps on Fascia/sofits joints causing terrible creaking noises when hot, Soil stack cut off and left below the sofit, venting next to our window (failed by building control) AAV not permitted. Considering the roofers general poor attitude and staggering unprofessionalism coupled with the realisation of MTF's true standards and lack of customer care, even if they had offered to come back and put things right we would've declined. We had to have remedial work undertaken by a 3rd party at great cost of both time and money, along with the added stress and inconvenience, but at least now we know the roof is finally completed to the standard we expected originally. MTF despite being notified in writing they failed to even acknowledge or give an apology. We have since reported MTF to trading standards for failing the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which states by law that services must be provided with reasonable care and skill, something they failed to do.
