Interesting local library housed in the town's former Corn Exchange, along the High Street. It's a historically important building, notable for its columnated steps & very high windows at the front. There's a rear door intended for disabled access, due to the inconvenient steps to the main door. Its local history book section, contained in a corner is small, but manages to shelve many long out of print classics. These include books otherwise unobtainable to the researcher, by locally important personalities, such as 'The Escaped Nun', Margaret Mary Moult, & Dedham artist, Sir Alfred Munnings. Reference books also include works about the locally active Thames barges, once to be found moared at nearby Mistley Packet Quay. There's also a free entry local history museum on-site, (but it doesn't open as frequently as the main public library section, mostly Saturday...)

Great commodity to the local area, I have been taking my kids weekly in the summer holidays and staff are always helpful and friendly plus there is a great selection of kids books from bedtime stories read by parents to independently read children's books right upto early teen
