Rory worked with me for 3 years and I came with barely any piano knowledge. During these 3 years I managed to pass with high grades the ABRSM grades 2 and 3 and learned how to better prepare my piano learning. Rory gave me the technical and expression tools I lacked and helped me lay a solid foundation for later learning. All the lessons I had with Rory were engaging and fun. He always listened to what I had to say and what I felt, and took it on board to come up with a better way to improve my playing and learning experience. After taking a long break from playing music, I started piano lessons with Rory. I was quite nervous about starting as an adult learner but Rory's teaching style is great! He helps you work through sticking points by breaking things down and his musical knowledge is really evident. I'd recommend him for learners at every level.

Rory is an excellent teacher who is very professional, passionate, and friendly. His lessons cover everything I needed to know to take my playing to the next level. Rory guided me through the ARSM, solidified my foundation, and also inspired me not just in music, but also in other aspects of life. I also won some prizes in some music competitions during having lessons with Rory, which was a really important experience for me to become a more confident musician. Thank you so much as I have learnt a lot from Rory! If you want to explore the world of music, I simply can't recommend anyone better than Rory!

I came to Rory shortly after I had moved from Hong Kong to the UK. Although I had got Grade 8 already, but the foundation was not quite solid at the time, and I would like to work on that. Rory helped me to build up my skills and confidence of my playing within three years of learning, as well as to achieve one of my goals, which was to complete Dip ARSM, in a structured and systematic way. Rory's professionalism and outstanding communication skills inspired me and guided me working towards my goals step by step. Rory also encouraged me to gain more experience by taking part in competitions and concerts, great ways to learn out of lessons. I really enjoyed and would like to recommend his lessons to you!

Rory is an absolutely phenominal piano teacher. I came to him when I started university, about a year after completing grade 8, thinking there wasn't much more to be taught, but unsure of how to continue playing without the structure a lesson provided. After I demonstrated my pieces, Rory very soon came up with a plan for the trajectory of the next year, which was exactly what I was looking for, and entered me in for the local music competition. In the lead up to this we prepared a new piece and improved one of my existing pieces. I came back with second place and a 'commendable performance', leaving me slightly sour, because I wanted to be better than 'commendable'. Rory picked up on this straight away, and we decided to change the plan for the next year to work on technique - a decision I was not expecting to make but was happy with nonetheless. A year on from this, I re-entered the competition and this time returned with second place, 'outstanding performance' and was awarded a trophy for the 'most promising pianist', one of the proudest moments of my life. Over the space of a year, Rory truly transformed my playing and provided me with the tools to analyse and improve a piece of music beyond anything I could have hoped for. He would be my first recommendation for anybody looking to get the most out of their piano playing.
