The Princess Street Spar is the closest convenience store to where I live and I have been frequenting it since the very first day it opened. It's been a mixed bag of experiences from amazing when it opened but has declined over the years. Pros Open 24/7, 365 - amazing Fantastic selection of items for a small/medium size shop ranging from all your essentials to the totally unexpected Always lots of offers available in store Exciting range of products sourced from local suppliers Majority of staff are lovely Cons They like to make the store like an assault course , with cages and crates strewn around the store at all hours of the day making it very difficult to move about. It's almost like they strategically place items all over the store to make it as difficult as possible to access the shelves. If you have mobility issues or are a wheel chair user I would think twice about going in here. The majority of staff are wonderful, warm and friendly. There are however a few that you try and avoid. In particular there's one lady who makes it seem like you're privileged that they're serving you and then yawns constantly in your face, mouth wide open, no attempt to cover it. You can tell she hates her job as she's quite happy to make it known. Then there's the older guy who whilst very friendly walks around the store, face uncovered coughing his guts up and clearing his throat.... seriously?! This brings me onto face coverings (which is only relevant in current times). There is zero enforcement policy (I kinda get it, and the abuse retail employees receive for asking people politely to cover their face is shocking) no matter what time of day you go in the majority of people in the store won't cover their face. It's possibly made worse by the poor example that the employees take - many wander around without a face covering or just wear it as a chin strap. It feels like no one wants to serve you in person behind the til. You'll always be asked to self serve if you're paying by card, even if you want items from behind the til which then need to be approved on the self serve checkout - all in all it actually takes longer than if they just served you at the til in the first place.
