What was the name of the service? Holy mass How full was the building? 100% - we met in St Joseph's Catholic church (next to the community centre) and it was completely full. Did anyone welcome you personally? No Was your pew comfortable? Yes How would you describe the pre-service atmosphere? Most of the regulars were in the community centre next door until immediately before the service started. We entered on time as the choir was singing. What were the exact opening words of the service? The service was in Malayalam, an Indian language spoken in Kerela. None of us could speak this language, or understand what was going on. What books did the congregation use during the service? None. What musical instruments were played? None. Music was piped through the PA system. Did anything distract you? No. Was the worship stiff-upper-lip, happy clappy, or what? The worship can best be categorised as incredible. The choir were fantastic and when the congregation engaged, it was like being in heaven. Sensational stuff. Exactly how long was the sermon? 10m9s On a scale of 1-10, how good was the preacher? We don't know as he only said a few words in English. In a nutshell, what was the sermon about? The few words spoken in English indicated it was about the parable of the sheep and goats found in Matthews gospel. Which part of the service was like being in heaven? The worship, especially at the beginning, bit also throughout. And which part was like being in... er... the other place? Nothing What happened when you hung around after the service looking lost? Everyone went to the community centre, but we went to the pub. How would you describe the after-service coffee? We didnt hang around to find out. How would you feel about making another visit (where 10 = ecstatic, 0 = terminal)? The language barrier means we probably won't go back, but the worship was incredible to witness. Did the service make you feel glad to be a Christian? Yes x 3. What one thing will you remember about all this in seven days' time ? The worship. The attendance of so many young families, 90% were under 40 and there was so many children. The way everyone knew the complicated liturgy.
