If you are considering taking a job with Dyson, do so with caution. It seems to me that they use probation periods as extended job interviews and the costs of this are borne by the worker and their families. Both financial and emotional. This happened to my partner who did not pass her probation and wasnt managed in a way that a company would, had they wanted her to pass it. Instead, at the half way point, she felt they essentially primed her for dismissal. Since that point, she put in every hour she could to address any concerns but it made no difference and they dismissed her with one weeks pay in order to give her time to find another job. We are now stuck in a town nowhere near any other job opportunities in her field, and she has taken her job back at her previous employer and while she received a pay rise (because they do value her), this has been more than swallowed up by the new 1.5 hour commute. I have since heard some worrying stories of Dysons management and hiring practices that had we known about beforehand, would have raised serious concerns for us. It has left us angry and gutted that the cost of their irresponsible hiring practices have fallen on us and there is nothing we can do about it except try to prevent someone else suffering the same fate. Since the dismissal, my partner has reached out to management to ask for more feedback so that she could make improvements for the future, and to get closure on what has been an extremely difficult situation. All attempts have been ignored which strikes me as both cowardly and makes me suspicious that something else was the issue and they dont want it delved in to. Looking back, we would have been better off having never taken the job with Dyson, so if you are in the same boat as we were, I would recommend proceeding with extreme caution and getting temporary accommodation or even reconsidering altogether.
