Kirk was recommended to me by a Pilates teacher, as a result of enquiring about a feeling of uneven strength when performing some movements. His knowledge and experience of what Pilates was originally intended to look and feel like versus movements that to the untrained eye look similar, is no doubt why he has the international reputation and client base. I have also come to realise and very much appreciate, his knowledge of Muscle Activation Techniques as an important enabler. Aside from all that, a human being its a pleasure to spend time with.

    The Best Pilates Teacher training!

Meeting and working with Kirk Smith was truly life changing for me. First as a client of Kirks, my body changed becoming so much stronger and connected. Then as a student, I felt I was learning the true method of Pilates for the first time. Kirk has an incredible talent in his teaching of Pilates, his understanding of biomechanics and muscle activation technique. As a teacher he is kind, considerate and so very generous in sharing his wealth of knowledge. My success in my own teaching career is directly due to this. Go and see Kirk, the best decision you will make for your body.

The very pertinent comments Kirk made on a professional forum prompted me to contact him. By his comments, it was apparent that he had a level of knowledge & understanding of the body & movement that sets him apart. We set up an appointment on-line. At the time of our first session, I had been bothered by neck pain & tension for over a year that a number of other professionals from the world of pilates, osteopathy, acupuncture had not been able to relieve permanently. Within 5 minutes of his assessment based on the execution of simple movements, Kirk guided me through a progression of isometrics that brought me permanent relief after that very first session. As our sessions progressed, through Kirks keen observation (even through the lens of a device), he was able to determine how to realign my body, addressing existing tensions and faulty movement patterns before seeking to build strength through more demanding exercises. Once no longer bothered by niggling tensions, we were able to work on the pilates repertoire which quickly built my strength and ability. We continued to work together for about 18 months before a major health challenge interrupted our collaboration. After chemo & radiation & a period of convalescence, I sought Kirks help to address the myriad of issues that had developed. I could not walk for any distance without limping. Again, simple movements for assessment, then a series of exercises, basic but focussed, to address the muscles that are not doing their part... and voila! Walking improved dramatically allowing me to build up to about 5km.

I started working with Kirk almost a year ago in one-on-one Pilates sessions. Highly recommended by a friend, Kirk is an excellent practitioner who has taught me a great deal about the importance of finding and then activating under-utilized muscles related primarily to knee pain and affected not only by a 35-years-ago meniscus/ligaments ski injury, but also by osteopenia/osteoporosis and scoliosis. With his help and focus I have restored almost complete knee functionality, and I have the tools (isometric movements and muscle activation) necessary to stay healthy, balanced, and pain free, and to move a bit more gracefully and confidently into the 2nd half of my 60s. I feel grateful and fortunate to have found someone as kind, professional, knowledgeable, and encouraging to work with. And over Zoom sessions, no less, in this Time of Covid.
