The Woodlands Hotel at Sandsend is a gem of a small hotel tucked away in the quietest part of the village. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners Rosie and Daryl. The building used to be the vicarage and is situated between the tiny village church and old school house. There is ample parking on site and the beach is within easy walking distance. Our bedroom was very comfortable with good quality bed linen. The ensuite was reached via a spiral staircase and had a large free standing bath tub. The local seaweed bath salts was a nice touch. The hotel has a pleasant bar with draft beer and a wide selection of gins including the local favourite Whitby Gin. The hosts were more than happy to make recommendations for local places to visit and there's a good selection of tourist information in the hotel reception. The breakfast was extensive and freshly prepared for each guest. Rosie's chickens provide fabulous fresh eggs! Sandsend is not far to walk from its larger and much busier neighbour Whitby. Sandsend village has cafes, 2 pubs and a couple of nice restaurants; Estbek House and The Fish Cottage both of whom serve excellent local seafood. The beach is massive at low tide and there is a Lifeguard in the spring/summer season.

Rooms: Beautifully furnished, clean, with a small fridge and tea, coffee making facilities and a TV if you wanted to use it. The bed was very comfortable if a little more soft than I'm used to Nearby activities: Very close to Whitby, but a nice walk to the sea, quite hilly though
