We wanted to book somewhere special for our wedding anniversary in or near Lynmouth. Trip advisor gave the hotel and restaurant as a five star rating. The reviews were excellent so we made the booking with the restaurant. Cathy and Sarah who own and run the hotel were nothing less than brilliant. Fantastic service, the meals that we ordered were cooked to perfection, fillet steak and venison, mouthwatering. We were chatting with some of the other guests in the restaurant and they were all equally impressed with their meals, especially the fish dishes. The hotel and restaurant are beautifully decorated and clean, and it's a great view of the town and out to sea from the restaurants elevated position. A perfect finish to our day, thankyou Ladies.

I have mixed feelings about the B&B. The location itself is nice, especially if you sit on the terrace. However, getting there is quite a first challenge. You have to drag your luggage up to the hotel. Not a very big deal, but the start is already sweaty. So why three stars only: Mainly because of two reasons: a tiny (and yet pricy) room and bad breakfast. The room was so small, I was nearly able to touch the walls by stretching out my arms. We had to sleep in beds that were opposite of each other and could hardly move in the room. I have rarely seen a room so small. Windows were small and it was quite dark. In the first night I had the feeling of being in a coffin. That might sound a bit drastic, but still a feeling. They will obviously have larger rooms, just make sure what exactly you get, when you book. I would say that the room was not worth the money. Breakfast had a poor quality, in my opinion. You had to pre-order, which is fine. So I asked for apple and banana. I love healthy breakfasts. Based on what they say (and what I read) about their food, I expected a bowl with fruit. What I got was a green, sour apple and a banana, lying in the table. That was a surprise. The cereals also tasted like from out of a (Kelloggs) box and not very good. Marmelade was pre packed cheap Marmelade. While I found the fruits somewhat funny, I was shocked with the latter. At that point we decided not to eat there in the evening. Parking is somewhat of an issue. I would recommend to park on the large car park next to the B&B for about 5 GBP, which is a very reasonable price for 24hrs. Overall, the owners (we only saw one) seemed to be very rushed, following strict processes, which is understandable for me in a small business, but it also created the impression that I am disturbing. Next time I would book another place, there are plenty.
