The Garden Room at Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve

The food was nice and the waitress very friendly. What let things down though was the huge amount of noise and the number of young children in the restaurant either running (or rolling) around the floor. Even at nearly 9pm there were still quite a number of very noisy young children in the restaurant. We were really hoping for a more peaceful environment to enjoy our meal.

Arrived a little early so went to bar for a drink. Sat at stool at the bar, no other customers at the bar and we was ignored by the bar staff, until we prompted her and asked if we could have a drink which was received with an unapproving glare from her. All aspects of service was absolutely diabolical. Waited ages for our food order to be taken. Had to ask for table water as not offered. Food took forever to come, found hair in food. Table wobbled and we asked twice for it to be sorted out. I.e. some beer mats. Never was sorted. No member of staff asked if our food was OK or whether we needed anything else. The children meals were more substantial in portions than the adult main meals, which were Sunday roasts. We had to ask for our table to be cleared during which time the waiter got distracted talking to other members of staff. It then took a further 15 minutes for our dessert menu to be taken. The children dessert order was wrong. Awful experience and end to the day in Port Lympne. We will not be returning to dine there.

We stayed at Port Lympne on Saturday night and celebrated my partners birthday dinner at the restaurant. I was reluctant to book as the reviews are hit and miss but the pizza restaurant (the only other one which is open at this time of year) was fully booked so we were left with no choice. We were so pleasantly surprised as the food and service were fantastic!
