Unusual buttress and unusual turret. Very old building. The clock was a minute slow unfortunately.

In my photos you will see a pathway leading straight to heaven . As proof you will even see "in coelo quies" quoted proudly on one of the walls . Ethelburga was a princess the daughter of King Ethelbert and Queen Bertha of Kent . Seeing as Bertha had converted Ethelbert to Christianity after marriage the same plan was made for Ethelburga who was married to King Edwin of Northumbria triggering the conversion of the Northumbrians to Christianity too . Edwin was killed at the Battle of Hatfield Chase by King Penda of Mercia and Cadwallon ap Cadfan . Ethelburga then returned to Kent and established one of the first Benedictine Nunneries in England on this site . Although altered over the years I am sure that this church is just as beautiful and as peaceful as I am sure hers was all those years ago . A true haven of peace in the Kentish countryside and yes in my eyes a little glimpse of heaven .
