TL;DR: Called asking about a car at half 6pm on a Saturday, call centre told me it was there and available. Drove 70 miles to get there the next morning at opening and was told it wasn't there and wasn't coming back as it had a fault. Tried to get us into one of the high mileage s**tboxes they had lying around. I found a car at the Luton branch which they had advertised on Autotrader which was exactly what we needed. I called them at half 6pm (half an hour after they close on a Saturday), and the call centre answered and told me the car was still available after looking it up on their internal system. I then made a booking for 10am the next day, when they open, and the person on the phone even asked me for a deposit to hold the car. I didn't see the point considering it was still available, the site was closed by then and I'd be there first thing as they opened the next day. 70 miles later the next morning, we arrive and can't see the car anywhere. We asked one of the salespeople and he said the car wasn't there, it was at the prep centre because the EML came on. This was obviously bad for us but then things started getting more irritating. After we sat down with the salesman for him to look into it, we were then shocked to see a very young, unaccompanied, child in a suit approach us and we thought he was lost. It turned out he was the sales manager and he had absolutely no faith in the salesman trying to assist us as he then started interjecting at every given chance. One quick glance on our phones showed us the stock they had in our price range, and nothing was close to what we were there for in terms of value, size, mileage etc. But that didn't stop the manager from busting out his revised sales manual lines and trying to convince us that an 80K+ mile Nissan Juke was just what we were looking for, not a small hatchback like we came to see. After telling him no, he paused for a moment, like a record skipping a beat or a PC freezing when it encounters an unexpected error. At which point he scurried away to his office behind the sales desk we were sat at. After speaking a bit more with the salesman and realising how futile it was, the manager decided to try one more thing and asked us if we were willing to go a grand over budget. Of course, we would have loved for an extra 1,000 to magically appear in our bank account but sadly that wasn't the case, so we had to disappoint him again. After that the closest car the salesman could find for us was 500 over budget and 2 hours away at another site of theirs, we then decided to give up and leave. It wasn't later until I realised that there was no way a sale department would have taken a faulty car to a prep centre on a Saturday, so that meant the car must have been unavailable from Friday at the latest and no one felt like updating the system in case someone enquired about it. So that was a 140-mile round trip wasted by an inept sales department. However, having dealt with their sales manager for that brief amount of time was more than enough for us. I dont think we could have stomached dealing with him during an entire sales transaction if things had been different. Response to the owners response: I think you guys have already wasted enough of my time (and money). And also, what more could I possibly tell you in an email that I haven't written here?
