This is by far the best place for young adults with severe special mental and physical needs within at least a 20 mile radius (although I would personally assume the best in the entire country). My son has very complicated mental and physical needs along with strong autistic OCD tendencies. He is tube fed and requires a very strict regime of medication through out the day that the qualified staff at Heywood house manage so seemlessly integrate into their daily activities. So far my son has only attended a handful of times and is very specific about places and people he is comfortable with. He will suffer from depression when in an environment not meeting his mental needs (he is more intelligent than most with such severe physical difficulties from brain dmaage). On his first trial day at Heywood house when he got home he said he was angry. We was worried he hadn't felt happy at Heywood house at first, but that wasn't the case at all. He was angry because he had to go back to school and wanted to stay at Heywood house! This was amazing, a revolution for us in fact, because he loves his school. He went to woodlands and its a brilliant school that I cannot praise enough. They helped my son achieve so much and he was very happy there. Leaving school had been a huge worry for us for years. Yet on his first session at Heywood house he loved it . He said he wants to go back and is ready to go now. He never before had shown this level of excitement and enthusiasm about going somewhere new. Normally he would be nervous, worried and upset. He instantly fell in love with Heywood house and with very good reason. It is run by a spectacular family who I could only ever aspire to be a fraction of in terms of intelligence and achievement. We feel so lucky and blessed that they had a space for our son. We explored all other options and services both local and out of county and in terms of my son's needs none came close to Heywood house. It wasn't even a competition. Heywood house is so far ahead of the other places and services in every single aspect of its services. Quite simply it's beyond exceptional and has made us all incredibly happy knowing our son will be entertained, educated, physically challenged and suitably exercised based on physiotherapy guidelines, will have his medical needs plus special feeding needs met and ultimately safe and happy. Our gratitude extends to Heywood house more than we can show but we thank you so much from the entirety of our hearts. You guys are saints . Thank you.
