BEST PUB QUIZ NIGHT IN DUNSTABLE The last Sunday in the month, the Glider hosts the best pub quiz night I've ever been to. It's not just some general knowledge questions and a picture puzzle. The landlord and his wife, have pulled-out all the stops, and included elements from various British game shows as well as something I'd never seen before called Stand-up Bingo. The Glider serves a much better range of beers than I've seen in most pubs. They had 4 or 5 ales on last night, including Wainwright's and a lovely creamy Pale Ale, which I drank all evening. The Quiz starts at 8:30pm and finishes by 10:30pm, so even if you're working the on Monday, you can get home well before 11pm. But it really is two hours of fun, even without the landlord's unintentional intermittent microphone hindering nearly every question! As well as 4 rounds of questions and a picture puzzle, Stand-up Bingo, and a raffle; there's Bruce Forsyth's Play Your Cards Right and Open The Box. Each element costs 1 per person, 6 in total, with 1 from each participant going towards their charity to sponsor Guide Dogs for the Blind. Last Night's Stand-up Bingo winner won 25. None of the three contestants won Play Your Cards Right, so the jackpot of 45 rolls over to the next last Sunday in the month. At 1 a go, it's going to be at least 80 next time. There's 60 rolling over in the Box too. The landlord said, once these rollovers get to 100+, he'll keep drawing tickets for contestants, until someone wins them. They don't do this quiz each week because there's so much packed into them. Besides the pub is busy most weekday evenings with two Pool and two Darts teams playing fixtures and parties often booked for Fridays and Saturdays. So, if you like a good pub quiz, don't miss the best in Dunstable on the last Sunday of the month at the Glider, showing exactly what a great community pub should be.
