My daughter who has mobility issues was 3 minutes late. Yes 3 minutes, it takes her a least five minutes to get from the car to the building because she is disabled. They orthotics department refused to see her! She had waited 2 months for this appointment! This was despite the fact she had a 20 minute slot and she was there to collect her shoes. We requested she be given at least a 15 minute or even 10 minutes to collect her shoes. It was refused by the manager Deanne Houtris who was very rude and arrogant. Had absolute no consideration that the patient was a disabled child with mobility issues. Other patients and parents who were waiting in the que were also disgusted by her behaviour and the very fact that my disabled daughter could not be seen because of 3 minutes! I would like to know which group of inhuman people in NHS came approved this policy and then put people like Deanne in a position of power to manage this so badly with absolute no consideration for the type of patients she is dealing with. To NHS Management, shame on you for approving this policy. Did you really think this policy would work in this department where majority of the patients have mobility issues and are disabled?? If a patient is 1 minute late they would not be seen? Please review this policy as it is causing more distress and difficulty for vulnerable patients. Please also provide training to Deanne on how to deal with vulnerable patients.

We've been using the centre for around 16 years now I think (maybe 17 (as of 2018). We've always had excellent service here, very polite helpful staff. The waiting area has a TV for a little viewing time should you forget your phone or iPad They cater for amputees and those who need specialist equipment / orthotics to assist the limbs with recovery and / or maintainence to help prevent worsening or improve the condition of any physical problem that may be caused from a wide variety of ailments. We have found that not only are they knowledgeable, patient and kind staff but they will also work with you and listen to your concerns and take on-board your suggestions or comments regardless of how silly they may seem to you at the time. Our son has and will continue to require the help, assistance and specially constructed bespoke equipment as he suffers from severe physical and mental impairment. We are very grateful to all their help over the years so far (especially the summer he had a huge growth spurt and outgrew his leg orthosis in less than 2 months ). We have used many aspects of the l&d due to my son's severe disabilities and have found in general that it is a very good hospital, one we feel lucky to have at our service. The limb fitting service stands out especially though as some of the least stressful visits that have provided us with great assistance and advice. Without exerting favouritism (as everyone there is great) Raymond stands out especially and has been phenomenal at working with my son and to him (and the rest of the staff) we are truly grateful. Thank you all for many years of ongoing support and genuine care for the patients you are involved with. Keep up the great work. You're all stars
