From moment we arrived on Saturday 14th January to leaving on the Monday, very polite and friendly staff. Hotel very clean the rooms are spotless and very comfortable. The beds are very comfy 2 good nights sleep. Our room was sea view and over the bar/restaurant never heard a dound from there once we went up to bed. Food was lovely we will definitely be going back.

My wife and I visited this hotel last December for a kid free Christmas break and it was fantastic. Fast forward to this year and a very different experience . I telephoned the hotel 2 days before arrival to confirm the restaurant closing times as we were travelling up after work and would require an evening meal on arrival. We were told that the restaurant would be serving food until 8pm. We arrived at the hotel at 7:30 and went straight through to the restaurant to order dinner. We were met by a scruffy looking man, dishevelled, in a stained shirt which needed ironing. It became clear later that this was the duty manager. I told him we wanted to order food, but he responded by saying that they had stopped cooking. I told him that I had spoken to someone earlier in the week and that they said food would be available until 8pm. I also told him that we hadn't eaten that evening in an effort to arrive ontime for the hotel restaurant. He went into the kitchen, then promptly returned and said that the chef had refused to cook and there was nothing he could do about it. I pointed out the time again. He replied with, well its 20 to 8 so we're closed. We left the restaurant after some choice words and found a pub over the road where we managed to get a meal . Next day we were out all day. When we returned to the hotel, we showered and decided to go down to the bar for a few drinks. Things weren't improving . The bar was full of local teenagers, all around 14 - 16 years old. They were all drunk and playing up. The scruffy duty manager was once again on duty. He completely ignored the fact that the bar was full of under aged children drinking alcohol. I went to the bar and noticed a note stuck on the till that said free main and starter for room 5. Which was us. I returned to my table and told my wife. Next thing, the duty manager, still in his stained shirt from yesterday, walks over and places cutlery on our table. I asked what he was doing with no response. I told him we wouldn't be dining in the restaurant after the night before. He scooped up the cutlery and launched it back into its container. No apology, no explanation, no conversation whatsoever. The cutlery should have gone in the wash btw, health and hygiene regs. We left the bar and once more headed to the pub over the road where we were informed that the hotel was widely known as a place for under aged drinking by all the local kids. Next day we left for home. I wanted to give some feedback to the general manager but unfortunately the reception area remained unmanned during our stay so we just posted our keys and left. I'm leaving this review in the hope that the owners will read it and address the situation at the hotel in the evening's. It's a little gem of a place in a fantastic location. It would be such a shame to let such an incompetent manager drag the place down and potentially cost them their licence to sell alcohol. He clearly has no control over his staff or clientele. His appearance and personal hygiene are also questionable . I would also like to add that your night porter is a very friendly, helpful individual. Who clearly passed our complaints onto someone on our behalf which is clearly why we were offered a free meal, even though nobody actually contacted us to apologise or tell us about the freebie. As for us. We are unsure weather to return next December. I live in the hope that changes will be made forthwith and the hotel will return to the wonderful place that it once was.
