Nice castle ruins, pretty intact compared to others we've seen. You can walk around the top which gives lovely views of both inside the castle and the wider countryside. Information boards throughout which gave a good idea of the history. We had fun exploring. Also has toilets and a small shop. It's a small site but interesting, worth a look around especially if you have English Heritage membership.

Despite a very wet day, it was a lovely walk to the castle. I opted to walk from Penrose B&B in Lostwithiel, where I was staying with my dog. It was further than I realised but lovely and my dog was very happy. Found a lovely walk along the river into Lostwithiel before coming back round on the lane up to the castle. The castle was simply fabulous and the entry fee of 8.50 max, concessions available, is reasonable. The views are really spectacular when you go up the steps onto the battlements. I would do again on a sunny day and there are some woods along the way with some trails, though it is pretty steep, but then, most places in Cornwall are steep You can also follow a footpath to Lanhydrock if you want to do more . A lovely way to spend time locally if you want to have a day without the car.
