We visited the delightful Howick Hall and gardens, which I can highly recommend. We looked forward to a cup of tea and a couple of slices of the delicious looking cakes displayed in the tearoom. We ordered loose leaf English breakfast tea, which was adequate but nothing special, and a slice of coffee and walnut cake and blueberry and banana cake. What a massive disappointment! They looked amazing, but it was a case of good appearance coupled with dismal content! The coffee and walnut cake was tasteless and as dry as sticks (spend your money on an M&S coffee and walnut cake and taste the comparison!), and the banana and blueberry cake managed to be both soggy and dry in equal measures - a remarkable feat! It was also overly sweet and had an unpleasantly artificial flavour. Oh well, at least there are many other tea rooms in Northumberland which havent disappointed us. The Earl Grey Tea Room has the award for having the most expensive unpleasant cake on this trip!!

The most disappointing and overpriced afternoon tea Ive ever had. 3 x tiny sandwiches per person (one choice of filling per person) one scone & cream p.p, one other choice of cake p.p, and a pot of tea to share. No garnish or crisps, etc. That cost 52.50 for three. The crockery was basic cafeteria style and mismatched.

Served by the wonderful Vicky who is such a bubbly happy character. The service and food was sublime.. After a walk around the stunning grounds to have lunch of egg and cress sandwiches side salad of plenty.. Crisps.. Sparkling water and a large fresh scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream... What a glorious day.. We will be returning soon...

Lovely cake selection including several gluten free ones. GF bread available for lunchtime sandwiches. Only slight criticism is the side salad was quite meagre and I would not have paid extra for it had I known. The staff were very busy but service was excellent
