    ***EDITED AFTER REPLY FROM HOST*** It is unfortunate that this was not the host's initial response we received after posting the following review. The host has displayed behaviour that is disproportionate to that expected of a professional business owner receiving a negative review. The host sought my Facebook profile and sent my friends and family unpleasant private messages after they were seen to offer me support on my page following this review. The host's messages to me via the booking agent became worryingly irratic with an unpredictable angry tone to which I felt too uncomfortable to reply. I voiced my concerns to the booking agency and requested that they ask the host to no longer contact with me. It is only since this complaint that the host has edited their Google responses (not only on mine but on previous client's reviews; all changed on the same day) and taken a more mature and professional tone with any further communications. Due to this experience I will not pursue any future business with this host. ********************************** We were unable to attend our booking at West Knole House in Langport due to my receiving of emergency surgery for a burst appendix 5 days before our check-in date. The host deems this not a valid reason for us to receive a refund. I was messaging the host from hospital prior to going into theatre of what we should do about the booking. We were told we should cancel so that they may gain further business for that weekend; "hopefully we will gain another booking". On their instruction we cancelled, agreeing to reschedule the weekend to one after my recovery period. However, upon later discussion they could not accommodate our future dates, so we then asked for a refund. They refused this request and highlighted their cancellation policy which states that as we were the ones that cancelled, they have legal rights to our money which they chose not to return. It was at this point we realised we were misled into cancelling for this exact reason. They kept redirecting us to the booking company saying it was with them we should be receiving the refund from. A mediator for the company was then involved who said that they are "unable to offer a refund without [the host] asking them to do so", that a "refund can only be agreed upon by the host" and "there is nothing [the booking company] are able to do if the host doesn't want to refund". The host knew this would have been our first weekend away as a couple in three years whilst working on the front line as an NHS Doctor and Nurse throughout the pandemic. Because of the host choosing to keeping our money, we are unable to book a replacement break. The dispute with NHS pay is indeed real and we fought hard to save that money. We literally now feel we can not catch a break. This accommodation is listed on numerous booking sites which are dented with other negative reviews. Reading them now I sympathise and relate to how mistreated these people have been.

    Rooms: Stunning rooms, plenty of space, excellent facilities, flat screen TV and WiFi. Food & drinks: Plenty of great places to eat and drink around the close location and even within walking distance, the Devonshire Arms.
