Bookers beware! We made a reservation for 2 which we had to cancel. We called the restaurant around midday on the day of the booking. We were told by the person on the phone this was fine and the booking had been cancelled, and then later that night were charged 40. When I called to query they refused to refund us despite admitting that it was an error on the part of the person we spoke to, as they'd failed to actually cancel the booking so we were charged as a no show. This is despite being asked to provide "proof" of the call via a screenshot of our phone log. I understand and have absolute sympathy for the rationale for charging for no shows. But I am really upset that we are 40 out of pocket despite cancelling properly and this being acknowledged by the restaurant.
