Write As Rain: Written Word Therapy

I work with people experiencing the pain of divorce and am constantly on the look-out for different approaches to coping with, and healing, that pain. 'Written word therapy' intrigued me, so I booked a session with Jenna to explore the possibilities. I came away with a clear idea of the process, its effects and the contexts in which it would be appropriate to use it. Jenna willingly shared her knowledge and experience, answered all my questions and pointed me in the direction of the literature to enable me to learn more. I came away very satisfied, and inspired to try out the process with my own clients.

I invited Write As Rain to do a talk with my group, the London Writers' Cafe community, because I firmly believe everyone could do with a better understanding as to the benefits of expressive writing. Caroline's talk presented unarguable findings on how writing something out unveils the heart of matters faster than speech. In this way, the notion of therapy sessions in written form is ideal and I'm surprised there aren't more UK counsellors using it with their clients. My impression of Write As Rain was of a professional and thoughtful organisation dedicated to helping others. Long may that continue.
