Our Mum was given end of life care at Southdown Nursing Home. We were impressed with the efforts made to care for her whilst she was there, particularly the pain control for her condition which was treated appropriately as it progressed. Her needs were well met by the team of kind and helpful nursing and support staff and her room was warm and comfortable, the whole establishment has a homely atmosphere. The choice and quality of the food provided was also excellent. We visited daily and could see how well the other residents, who were more mobile than our mum, benefited from the various activities organised in the day room. The nurses were very caring, professional, approachable and responsive to any questions we had. They had a bright, happy manner and treated mum with dignity and respect, even the laundry and cleaning staff always knocked on the door before entering and had a smile for mum, which brought a smile to her face too! We wish the Southdown Nursing Home well for the future as they provide a very valuable type of care.

The care received for my mother was excellent as she was an end of life resident. Although my mother's stay was for a short time, I can highly praise the care from Melba's team. Klondi and Hazel are first class nurses with many years of experience. They showed kindness and understanding and treated my mother with utmost respect. Well done to all at Southdown, all staff were friendly, happy and keen to please!! S. Reynolds, Cheam, Sept 2018.

I cant thank the team at South down enough for the care and love and attention they have given my father who has been very difficult at times to deal with. After visiting him we all feel so happy to see him happy and so well looked after with lots going on every day he is really always having exercise and activities and the staff are open and friendly and cant do enough to help. This home is exceptional in that it is a home not an institution where they treat the patients like family members.

My Father died in St. Helier Hospital at the end of May. On Monday 21st May I cleared his room and informed Melba the owner that he wasn't coming back; the home then fraudulently charged my Father via Sutton Encompass services for an entire week that he wasn't there. My advice is to NOT sue this home. Their idea of assisting someone who can't eat solids is to LIQUIDISE TOAST...why? because it's very very cheap... Southdown Nursing Home, Dorset Road have lost/appropriated my Dad's nice clothes and now his wardrobe is full of tatty clothes that aren't his .....but with his room number written on them with indelible ink.. I think I know why that is - he's also wearing someone else's glasses. I am, of course, complaining - he was also sedated for a week without our consent. The owner tells me it's not their policy to write room numbers on clothes - perhaps instead of telling me she should tell the staff with the permanent markers?
