This is the second time I have used this company successfully and found their professionalism and expertise refreshing. The workmen were very polite and very tidy. The team were always contactable and made the whole process of having work done much easier. Would highly recommend.

Very rude and aggressive plus poor communication. We had an escape of water and hired him due to the good reviews on Checkatrade. Tony (owner) seemed to be fine, but once he was given a large sum of money he became boorish. His workmen also discussed the works with neighbours. I asked for this to not be done and he refused to tell them not to discuss our business. Originally, British Gas was supposed to replace the pipework, but then refused. My complaint to them was upheld. This caused a delay and Tony said he was going to charge us for it. The insurance paid for the pipework to be replaced by Gasjet. I already paid for the electrics. I have a statement from Gasjet saying they will never work with him again, which was sent to Checkatrade. Gasjet told Tony they will be laying the pipes under the screed and gave plenty of notice. The day Gasjet came to do the job he showed up with no notice and told them to stop working! He then arranged for the flooring to be laid. When Gasjet returned, they had no choice but to lay the pipes above ground. I had to pay to have the exposed pipes boxed in as they ran down the side of my son's bedroom, throughout his bedroom and in the bathroom. Tony refused to remedy this. We asked for a quote on work outside of the insurance job to redo our bathroom. Without warning or authorisation he removed all of our wall tiles and sanitary ware. He tried to charge us over 1000 just to retile a 17sqm bathroom (with us supplying everything) and several hundred pounds to remove them plus nearly 200 to dispose of everything. He was given a certain amount to redo part of the bathroom, but not all, of it. We negotiated for Tony to give us this sum. The floor was not done correctly and moves when you walk on it, but he refused to remedy it. His workman did not leave enough space for it to expand and it bows up. He claims he gives a 12 month guarantee, but will not honour it. We put everything in writing to him and he said to meet him at our home. He came into our home and handed us a letter. He turned his back on us and told us to read the letter. We asked to go step by step and he refused and kept talking over us. My husband asked him to lower his voice as it was early in the morning as he did not want to disturb the neighbours and went to close our front door. Tony threw our keys at me, pushed my husband and wrested control of the door. He then claimed he was assaulted and my husband tried to kidnap him. Our son, who has special needs, was a witness to some of this behaviour and became very upset over it. The police did an investigation and his claims were unfounded, but they had enough to press charges against him for assault. I wanted to press charges, but my husband wanted this finished and I reluctantly relented to his wishes. I made a complaint to Checkatrade and they allowed my negative review to stand. I too have emails, videos and pictures. I attached pictures showing how our home was returned to us. As for the "free" work, he painted my son's ceiling and the one in the hallway. He did not give us a card for Dulux. We were told to go to the website and pick a colour. Despite being paid around 13,000 he did not put loose wires back into place, did not put our bathroom door back on, tiled all of the bathroom floor including under where the bathtub was being placed and then refused to put it to right. We had to pay another tradesman to redo his mess up. While we were satisfied with how quickly he started to work and the tidiness from his workmen, the whole experience left us feeling very stressed and we cannot recommend him due to his behaviour, lack of listening skills and refusal to discuss any issues or rectify them. It was clear he was out to engineer a confrontation so he could claim he is unable to return to the property in the future if there are issues to be dealt with. He is proud of his ratings, but beware. There are better tradesmen out there who know how to treat their customers with respect.

Christmas eve 2013 started with high hopes but ended with a river running through them. Like many others facing the prospect of dealing with builders and insurance companies, my wife Carol & I were already emotionally stretched to breaking point by the experience. From the first moment I talked to, Jenny, of Applegate Alexander & Co, I immediately understood that she knew exactly what to do. Within a day, Tony had been to see us; arranged for work to commence; contacted the insurance company and commenced, what would end up being, a long journey to getting our home back. If we knew then what we know now, we might have been even closer to despair but without that help and support from Jenny & Tony our journey would have been even more stressful. Of course it wasn't easy for anyone sharing our experience and more than once Tony had to step in to act on our behalf but we now have a home that is arguably better decorated than before. Applegate Alexander & Co are just what we needed in our crisis, a professional company from start to finish and their strength flows from the quiet efficiency of Jenny to Tony's experience and knowledge. They are a very hard working couple and Carol & I wish them every success.
